Flood Relief Efforts Intensify as Monsoon Approaches Bihar
As the monsoon season approaches, Bihar is proactively enhancing its flood management strategies to mitigate the devastating impacts of annual floods. The state government has approved a comprehensive ₹562 crore plan, encompassing 173 flood protection projects aimed at bolstering resilience and safeguarding communities Strategic Infrastructure Initiatives
A significant portion of the plan focuses on constructing and upgrading flood control infrastructure. Notably, 58 projects are set to be implemented in Nepal, targeting erosion control in the upper reaches of rivers like the Kosi and Gandak. This cross-border approach is anticipated to reduce the volume of water entering Bihar, thereby mitigating flood risks in downstream areas Community-Centric Relief Operations
In preparation for the monsoon, the state has established 1,379 community kitchens across flood-prone districts, ensuring daily meals for approximately one million residents. Additionally, 8 relief camps have been set up, providing shelter to over 12,000 displaced individuals. Financial assistance of ₹6,000 per affected family has been disbursed, totaling ₹225 crore to 3.75 lakh households Enhanced Emergency Response
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are on high alert, conducting evacuations and rescue operations. Recent efforts have led to the evacuation of over 4.8 lakh individuals to safer locations. In areas where road access is compromised, the Air Force has been deployed to deliver essential supplies, ensuring that even the most inaccessible communities receive aid.
